    Alan Segal

A veteran of agencies from New York to New Zealand (Saatchi & Saatchi, Chiat/Day, McCann), I balance problem-solving skills with creative energy to develop media that works for my clients. Doing business as The Offswitch since '01, and assembling virtual project teams as needed, I've worked directly for Walmart.com, Samsung, Charles Schwab, and Peets.com, and through agencies including Organic (Hilton), Teak (Google, Logitech), EVB (Lands' End), Amazon (Kellogg's), Merkle (DirecTV), Haggin (eBay), 10th Degree (Mitsubishi), MarketBridge (HP, MasterCard), and Doremus (Autodesk). In '12-13, I was Digital CD at Saatchi & Saatchi X (P&G, Quaker, Walmart.com). In '14, I managed content and design as Executive CD with Corporate Visions (AT&T, Motorola, Cisco, others). I've consulted fulltime with Wells Fargo, as a Digital Experience Design lead and Senior Content Strategist in San Francisco, since early 2015.

From Top-line Business Strategy to the Finer Points of UX, Art, Copy, and Production

To start, let's assess your situation, then clarify your business objectives and communication objectives. Once our strategy is set, we'll agree upon a project plan -- a scope of work, schedule, and budget -- to hit your objectives. We'll truly partner with you, not just tell you what you want to hear (unless it also happens to be true). Our clients appreciate our experience, candor, and realism, getting smart and effective work done on time and budget.

Messaging matters. Content is king, from naming and information architecture down to the simplest phrasing of a call-to-action. Words can have deep and varied meaning -- and power. And what we edit out can be as important as what we leave in. So we take great care to craft the right words in the right context, to tell your story with just the right mix of wit and wisdom, building connections between your brand and your audience.

We create attractive, effective user experiences and visual designs that maximize your message and media investments. There's no medium or visual challenge -- big or small -- we haven't seen before, from art-directing sublime fashion ads for Saks Fifth Avenue, to designing the first Toyota.com, branding local nonprofits, animating infographics and data visualization, developing social/mobile ecommerce for Fortune 50 brands, and more.

Whether your brand needs custom photography, stock images montaged or altered for your needs, or other compelling visuals from hand-drawn to digital, we're masters at giving your business a unique, memorable, and very good-looking face.

We have the technical skills (and know the right vendors) to execute your campaign, and whatever the medium or channel. From complex mail/email programs to content management systems, ecommerce, site maintenance, and more... we can do it (and do it well) so you don't have to.
